With over 25 years of teaching experience, Jimmy Lane has inspired hundreds of young drummers across Connecticut and beyond. Starting his own drum journey at the age of 12, Jimmy understands how to connect with kids at their level — making lessons fun, interactive, and meaningful.

Drums InstructorJimmy studied under legendary drum educator Ray Alexander, whose teaching lineage traces directly back to Buddy Rich, one of the greatest drummers of all time.
This foundation allows Jimmy to give students not only the right techniques but also a connection to drumming history that makes learning extra special.
But Jimmy’s teaching isn’t just for beginners or kids. Many of his students are adults who come to him with years of playing under their belt, eager to sharpen their skills, expand their musical vocabulary, or rediscover their passion for drumming. Whether it’s fine-tuning advanced technique, working through challenging jazz charts, or preparing for live performance, Jimmy knows how to meet seasoned players at their level and push them toward their goals. His approachable style, deep musical knowledge, and respect for each student’s individual journey make him a trusted mentor for drummers of all ages and abilities.

Jim is an excellent drum teacher. My son has studied with him for almost a year and I have sat in on every lesson. Jim creates a positive atmosphere where my son feels safe to learn. He encourages excellence in musicianship by instilling a respect for the instrument and the need for regular practice. But most of all, my son learns and has fun. We have had music lessons elsewhere in Westport and in NYC and he is by far the best teacher we have had. We highly recommend Jim and his studio.
